When Dave Winer, then the Blogger team invented blogging, the field was wide open. Anybody could make a big living by blogging. Google needed content to go big and you were on the front page of google for just about any and every search if you had a blog back in those days. And nobody had to know programming. That was the disruptive enabler. In fact, guys like Mike Arrington and Jason Calacanis made millions selling their blogs to AOL. They can now retire.
While that's still possible, take Arriana Huffington for example. She only started blogging last year, for the vast majority of you, blogging is not profitable.
